Rush Limbaugh on Osama bin Laden's death: 'Thank God for President Obama'

Rush Limbaugh began his radio show Monday morning praising President Obama for his leadership in the demise of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
In his nationally syndicated radio show, Limbaugh who has been one of Obama's fiercest critics, gave the commander-in-chief all the glory in the successful mission that ended the life of Public Enemy No. 1.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we need to open the program today by congratulating President Obama," Limbaugh said. "President Obama has done something extremely effective and when he does, this needs to be pointed out. President Obama has continued the Bush policies of keeping a military presence in the Middle East. He did not scrub the mission to get Bin Laden. In fact, it may be that President Obama single-handedly came up with the technique in order to pull this off."
Limbaugh, who has recently criticized the first lady's figure, said in 2009 that he hopes Mr. Obama fails, and complained last year about Americans donating to the post-earthquake humanitarian relief in Haiti, continued about Bin Laden: "You see the military wanted to go in there and bomb. They always do. They wanted to go in there and drop missiles and launch bombs. A number of totally destructive techniques here. But President Obama, perhaps the only qualified member in the room to deal with this, insisted on the Special Forces. No one else thought of that. President Obama. Not a single intelligence adviser, not a single national security adviser, not a single military adviser came up with the idea of using SEAL Team 6 or any Special Forces," Limbaugh said, with what some are saying is a slight tinge of sarcasm in his delivery.
"Our military wanted to go in there and just scorch the earth," Limbaugh continued, "but President Obama single-handedly understood what was at stake here. He alone understood the need to get DNA to prove the death ... it was President Obama single-handedly and alone who came up with the strategy that brought about the effective assassination of Osama bin Laden," the radio host said, concluding, "Thank God for President Obama."

While the daily words of Rush Limbaugh can anger as many as those to whom they hold appeal, there is always that footnote suggesting that – at the end of the day- it’s all just entertainment.
But is that really true?
I have to admit that while I have little to recommend when it comes to the venom that spills from Rush’s facile mouth, I have always been appreciative of his broadcasting talent.
Even when Limbaugh pushed it well beyond the limits of anything resembling good taste when he mocked Senator Edward Kennedy upon the man’s death, I tried to remind myself that there is a large segment of the American population who agreed with Limbaugh.  If they lacked the human decency to show a little respect at the man’s passing, I suppose it was Limbaugh’s role to speak up for them – even if he furthered his reputation for not possessing an ounce of class in the process.
Today, on this rarest of occasions when all Americans can feel good about a great success accomplished by our government, Limbaugh took the opportunity to mock the president during his radio show.
It seems that Limbaugh believed that the president took too much credit for the successful mission that led to the killing of the world’s public enemy number one and used his sarcasm as the only way he could manage to put a negative spin on such an overwhelming positive event – even to Rush’s cadre of listeners.
Check it out -

While Rush feels the president should have been more generous with the credit, one wonders if Rush would have been prepared to spread theblame around had the mission gone terribly wrong?
I think we know that answer.
It seems to me that even the most loyal Limbaugh listener has to question whether this man is worthy of their support and loyalty. It’s one thing to espouse the conservative line in whatever style Rush believes will appeal to his audience. However, on the day when his country has something to celebrate that is as positive to the most extreme right-winger as it is to those on the extreme left, how can a listener take any pleasure from Limbaugh’s need to pour frigid water on so important an event?
This is not entertainment – and I think the time has come to stop giving this man a ‘pass’ by accepting it as such.
Rush Limbaugh is a man who has something profoundly wrong with him. I don’t know if it was the drugs or whether he was locked in a closet one time too many as a child.
As any good comic will tell you, it is not uncommon for entertainers to find their voice through their pain. Maybe that explains Limbaugh’s talent as a radio performer.
However, comics – at least successful ones – know when a joke is the wrong way to go.  Indeed, I don’t hear any comics or entertainers making fun or expressing sarcasm when it comes to this important landmark in our nation’s history.
Only Rush.
Limbaugh is no entertainer. Rather, he is the only dark cloud on what is one of the sunniest days this nation has known in a decade.
Today, Rush told us everything we need to know about what Rush Limbaugh really cares about- and it is not his country. So important to him are his ratings, his ego and his bank account, he couldn’t manage to grasp the benefit of – just this once-joining with his countrymen in appreciation for an important job well done.
As I see the families of the 9-11 victims on the television screen expressing their profound gratitude, I wonder if it is even possible for anyone to be more out of sync than Rush Limbaugh.
Has the time now come to realize that this is a voice not worthy of being valued, even by the most ardent supporter of the conservative movement?
I truly hope so. Because Rush Limbaugh can no longer pass as an entertainer.
In fact, he can no longer even pass for an American who cares his country – he only cares about Rush.

Rush Limbaugh: 'Thank God For President Obama' (VIDEO)

Rush Limbaugh said President Obama deserved "congratulation" for the death of Osama bin Laden.(NOTE: This story has been updated. See below.)
"We need to open the program today by congratulating President Obama," he said on his Monday show. "President Obama has done something extremely effective, and when he does, this needs to be pointed out."
The effectiveness, he said, came from President Obama's decision to send a Special Forces team to kill bin Laden--something he said, citing news reports, that none of the president's military advisers had thought of doing.
"Our military wanted to go in there and just scorch the earth...but President Obama single-handedly understood what was at stake here. He alone understood the need to get DNA to prove the death...it was President Obama single-handedly and alone who came up with the strategy that brought about the effective assassination of Osama bin Laden," he said, adding, "thank God for President Obama."
Of course, Limbaugh said this with more than a grain of sarcastic salt (see update below for more). He made clear that, in part, it was Obama's continuation of President Bush's military and detention policies that provided the intelligence which led to bin Laden's killing. (He also made the by-now-common gaffe of swtiching Obama's and bin Laden's names around in his sentences.)
Watch (via Mediaite):
UPDATE: Later in his broadcast, Limbaugh read out one of the reports about his comments which suggested he was praising Obama. While he read the report, from The Hill, Limbaugh laughed heartily before moving onto a caller.
